MY NEW BOOK OUT in FEBRUARY 2020

I have a new book out for Valentine’s Day 2020. It’s called ‘Gin Me Over’ and it’s the story of one rather flighty and creative gin-maker named Birdy who meets his match in uptight bank manager Jaydon. Their chances of making it together are good…unless Jaydon loses patience before they’ve got a chance to start what’s certainly building between them.

Here’s a nice long excerpt to give you an idea of exactly what poor Jaydon will have to put up with 🙂

“I’m sorry, Mr Dobbs. I simply can’t do this anymore.” Elias Cranston, my ex-Business Manager all of ten seconds ago, shook his head vehemently and looked as if he was trying not to cry. “I’ve tried, God knows I’ve tried but it isn’t working.”

I stared at him in confusion, noticing the nervous tic in his left eyebrow, and the fingers clenched at his sides. He seems terribly stressed. Perhaps I should make him some tea. “I’m so sorry to hear that, Elias, and must I tell you once again not to call me Mr Dobbs? It’s Birdy, for Christ’s sake.”

Elias closed his eyes in what seemed like despair and carried on with the head shaking. I was rather worried he was going to lose it the way he was going. “It’s not right to call a man ‘Birdy’,” he garbled, “Especially when that man is your customer and the owner of everything around you.” He waved a hand at the estate surrounding us, green fields and trees as far as the eye could see. His hand came back from its floundering and motioned towards me.

I gazed at it in fascination. Elias must have a soupçon of Italian in him, I mused, given the extravagant nature of his gestures. That thought made me think of the luxurious bottles of Firecrest Ruby gin and other blends currently bound for Tuscany for display at a gin expo. Ori-Gin’s award-winning blend of botanicals, cherries and my own secret ingredients was a hit and we’d been hard-pressed to produce enough to satisfy the demand.

“And this is exactly why I can’t stay.” I was brought back to the present as Elias’s voice grew louder and more frustrated. I peered at him. Good God, was the man actually wringing his hands? I’d thought that was a literary term and no one ever really did it.

Elias glared at me. “You zone out when I’m talking to you, ignore my proposals and go off on a tangent, and I never quite know whether anything I’m saying is getting through to you. That’s why you’re in this financial mess.” His voice quavered. “And that awful tea you force upon me every time we get together makes me ill. I’m really not a fan of liquorice.”

I blinked owlishly behind my glasses as I raised a finger and pushed them up my nose. I made sure not to use my middle finger as I’d nearly had my lights punched out once by an irate stranger in a pub. “I’m sorry, were you saying something? Err, I promise to listen. Where were we?”

We were nowhere,” Elias said tersely as he turned to walk back up towards the office attached to the side of the distillery. “I, however, am making plans to leave and you’ll need to find someone else to manage this sorely declining business. I’m sorry, Mr Dobbs, but if you carry on the way you’re going, you’re going to need to find a new job and something else for your employees.” He strode up the manicured lawn towards the office and I could only stare after him, perplexed. The business had won a heap of awards, some with monetary values; the gin was selling well, and my employees always got paid on time. I was at a loss to think why Elias would think that was all going to end.

Perhaps I should have paid more attention to all the boring paperwork and his endless discussions on cash flow, budgets and… Blah blah blahI was bored already.

“Keep your gin up, Elias,” I called after him, wondering whether I should follow or not. “It’ll be all right, you’ll see.” His shoulders tensed and I remembered he wasn’t a fan of my gin puns. I had a load of them saved up for special occasions. The warble of a wagtail caught my attention and I turned to the sound. “Hello, my pretty,” I murmured and forgot all about Elias as I hurried over to the tree I thought the wagtail perched in. I reached into the pocket of my jeans for my phone. “Don’t fly away, will you? I’m coming to take your picture.”

I hope you enjoyed it! Keep in touch with me for future news, it’s lovely having you along on the journey.

Excerpt

Jack’s phone buzzed, and he swatted the sound away. Too early in the damn morning. Another buzz. He drowsily pulled himself from sleep. Across the room, Marcus mumbled in his sleep.

Jack checked his phone, body surging to life at Ed’s name on the screen.

Ed: Morning!

Ed: Oh, crap, it’s probably still too early for you.

Jack couldn’t type back quick enough. Ed writing to him this early in the morning, that had to mean something, surely.

Jack: Nah, I’m totally awake. Why?

Ed: Just finished a job. Am close to Harrison….

Jack was already scrambling out of bed, messaging one-handed while he emptied his drawers for a clean shirt.

Jack: Send me your location. I’m in desperate need of caffeine. Bet you could use some too.

Ed sent a grinning dog and his location. Eighteen minutes later, Jack walked into the local Starbucks. He scanned the almost empty store and caught Ed’s broad shoulders at the counter.

Jack strode over and clapped the guy on the shoulder, giving it a lingering squeeze. “I have an eerie sense of déjà vu.”

Ed’s warm shoulder shook as he chuckled. “I haven’t mowed you down yet.”

“No, no, that you haven’t.” Their gazes snagged, and Ed definitely swallowed. Probably too early—in the day and their friendship—to tease.

Jack rocked back on his heels, dug his wallet out of his pocket, and ordered.

When they both had their drinks, they sank into armchairs in the corner of the room.

Ed’s gaze kept dipping to his chest, and Jack’s lips tipped up behind his mocha. “How was your morning job?”

“I was extremely motivated to get the job done quickly.”

Jack’s grin widened, and an ill-timed sip ended up rolling down his chin. He swiped it off. “Do you often have jobs close to Harrison?”

“Not as much as I’d like.” Ed rubbed his palm over the arm of the chair.

“I mean, a lot of the time I have to drive out farther.”

“Well, any time you’re nearby….” He raised his cup.

Ed glanced at his chest again. “I like the look.”

Jack followed the sweep of Ed’s hand and—fuck. His shirt was inside out. “Right. Of course.”

Ed leaned forward in his seat, amusement lighting his eyes as he took in the rest of him. Shivers skittered through Jack, and he held his breath. “I totally woke you, didn’t I?”

“Busted.”

The deep laugh Ed gave made it all worth it. “So you’re a high-ranking anchor in your fraternity?”

Jack snorted at the muff. From the way Ed stared at him, it was hard to tell if he’d done it on purpose or really had the term mixed up.

“We prefer to pronounce it ‘archon,’ but either way, I’m one of the fraternity leaders, yes.”

“Do you like it?”

“Which? Being in the fraternity or being an officer?”

“Both.”

Of course he’d want Jack to answer both. “Yeah, for the most part. I mean, there are a couple guys I wish weren’t my brothers, but that’s how it is.”

“How’d you pick that fraternity?”

“There wasn’t really any other option.”

Ed’s brow furrowed. “I thought Harrison had a lot of fraternities.”

“No, not like that.” Jack waved his hand and shook his head. “My dad, both of them were in Pi Kappa Phi. Marcus and I grew up hearing all the stories about their days in the house.”

“Wow, that’s cool.”

“Yeah, they met when they were freshmen and were friends until… well… until my parents died.” He thought he’d been ready to deal with the issue, but confronted with it, he froze.

Ed scooted up on his chair, leaning forward. “You okay, Jack?”

Jack rubbed the ring at the chain around his neck and drew in a calming breath. “Yeah. Yeah.”

Ed seemed to realize Jack needed a change in conversation, because he abruptly started telling Jack how his sister had woken him last night screaming murder. She’d gone to the bathroom at night, and when she walked back to her room, someone was in there, rustling the sheets.

Ed had launched into her room with a bat only to be confronted with their cat. The first time the cat decided not to be shy. In the middle of the night, rolling around Becky’s bed. They laughed so hard, they needed to make a cup of hot milk to settle down again.

“Sounds like you’re a good guy to have around… wayward cats.” And panicking… friends.

Ed sipped his coffee. “What about you?”

“I like to think I’m a good guy to have around too.”

“I’m sure you are.” Ed set his coffee down. “Look, about last night….”

Jack clasped his cup, muscles rigid. Here it was. “Yeah?”

Air blew into the café along with a group of rowdy hipster students toting stainless steel cups. Jack shuffled forward on the cushion to hear Ed better, but Ed’s gaze strayed toward group and his mouth flattened.

Jack cursed the interruption, but it was clear the moment had passed.

“What are your plans the rest of the day?” Ed asked instead.

“The rest of the day?”

Ed laughed, and Jack soaked it up.

“Class, bantering with Brittany—she’s awesome—frat meeting about the spring formal, messing around with the guys. Might squeeze some actual study in there.” A lot of study, actually.

“Messing around with the guys?”

That piqued your interest, did it? Jack smirked. “Play a bit of ball if the weather holds. Get out the PlayStation and hit the video games if it doesn’t.”

“What’s the spring formal?”

Jack groaned. “The bane of my life.”

Author Bio

Andy Gallo prefers mountains over the beach, coffee over tea, and regardless if you shake it or stir it, he isn’t drinking a martini. He remembers his “good old days” as filled with mullets, disco music, too-short shorts, and too-high socks. Thanks to good shredders and a lack of social media, there is no proof he ever descended into any of those evils.

Andy does not write about personal experiences and no living or deceased ex-boyfriends appear on the pages of his stories. He might subconsciously infuse his characters with some of their less noble qualities, but that is entirely coincidental even if their names are the same. And while Andy leaves the hard sci-fi/fantasy for his alter ego, Andrew, in his mind a touch of the supernatural never derailed a good relationship.

Married and living his own happy every after, Andy helps others find their happy endings in the pages of his stories. He and his husband of more than twenty years spend their days raising their daughter and rubbing elbows with other parents. Embracing his status as the gay dad, Andy sometimes has to remind others that one does want a hint of color even when chasing after their child.

Vincent Lowry had lived all his life in fear of two challenges he’d been born with. It was only when he met the outspoken out and proud Pollack Nazari that he realised those challenges needed to be owned, and his stain of shame wasn’t so bad after all.

7TH SEPTEMBER FOR MEN OF LONDON #9

Only two more days to go until Survival Game is officially released. So, what can you expect in this book? Well, Laverne and Brook re-appear, with a cameo appearance by Lesley Scott. He doesn’t have a big role, but he’s still around, looking dapper. Of course, Ryan and Mango feature quite a bit, with an interrupted blowjob scene that I hope will make you LOL. There’s the usual bitch slapping among the drag queens, and poor Kyle nearly loses it with one of them.

You’ll learn more about both Kyle and Eric’s past in this story, and Kyle’s does involve cruel spousal abuse. Eric is still suffering the loss of his partner a few years ago, something which torments him to this day. The story contains suicide and murder as well, so fair warning. After all, this is a story involving a paramedic and I’ve kept it true to life and spared the honey coating. This story is supposed to reflect what these paramedics go through every single day without it being soft soaped.

Silver Dagger Book Tours are doing a blog tour Sept 8th to Oct 8th too, and I think there may still be time to sign up if you fancy

Survival Game – Men of London #9

The latest book in my Men of London series will be available on September 7th. This story took a while, I struggled getting it to all gel together. I hope I did it justice.

If you read Hard Climate, you’ll remember Kyle Tripper, Ryan’s feisty manager at Club Delish, and Eric Kirby, the paramedic who came to the club one tonight to assist a man having a heart attack- and even went on a date with Ryan once.  Kyle and Eric were quite taken with each other even then and in this book, they get to know each other a little better…

What’s it all about, you ask?

Since his true love died, paramedic Eric Kirby has been living a half life, but when he meets purple-haired Kyle Tripper, Eric’s heart is jolted into a whole new rhythm.

HANDLE…

Kyle Tripper has led an interesting life. Currently the manager of London’s famous Club Delish, he used to be a croupier extraordinaire in Las Vegas. But not everything in that life was so glamorous; his ex was a piece of work. Now gun-shy, Kyle hopes there is someone special out there for him, and secretly wishes it’s luscious paramedic, Eric Kirby.

WITH CARE

Every day Eric Kirby goes through the motions. Yeah, he saves lives, and, sure, he makes a difference, but he doesn’t feel it anymore – not since he lost his one true. But, when he meets wild, flamboyant Kyle Tripper and learns there’s a skittish, apprehensive man beneath the bold façade, the best of Eric’s protective nature kicks in, and opens his heart to a new love.

My apartment building had seen better days. It was ancient and looked like it would fall apart any time. The color had worn out over the years and there were cracks here and there, but it was dearest to me anyway. It had been my home for as long as I could remember; well, it wasn’t exactly owned by us — we rented, to be specific — but I speak from the sense of belonging. The owner of the building — Mr. Marshall — had promised to repair it soon. It was a one-story building with four small apartments, two on each floor that faced each other. Our apartment was on the first floor, so, at three in the morning, I took the flight of stairs and walked up to my door soundlessly. I knew better than to wake up our neighbor. I slowly put the key into the lock and opened the door.

Hesitating for some time, I considered again whether to tell my mother about what had happened. I couldn’t hide anything from her, but the explanations would have to wait until morning. I was too tired and sad right now.

I closed the door silently behind me.

The house lights were dim but I could see the light in her bedroom. As always, she was waiting for me to return. She would be curled up in her bed, reading her favorite Nora Roberts novel. She did the same every night before going to sleep.

I headed for her room. Thankfully, I had stopped limping as the pain dissipated; she wouldn’t know anything was wrong right away.

The door was ajar.

I stepped into the room.

…And suddenly it was hard to breathe.

“Mom! Oh, dear God!”

Her lifeless body hung from the ceiling fan.

I rushed to support her feet. Although I knew the worst had happened, I hoped she was alive.

She didn’t move.

Her bare feet were cold.

Her skin, pale like never before.

I couldn’t understand why she would take such an extreme step. She was fine when I had left for work that evening.

My tears flowed freely this time.

That was when I noticed it. The letter on the nightstand.

In 2007, when he had just turned sixteen, he decided that he would make his lifelong dream come true—to become a well-known, respected author someday.
